The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was introduced on 25th June 2015 to provide affordable housing Indians, with its Urban category aiming to provide accommodation to individuals based in the urban areas by 2022. Typically, this scheme offers a subsidy on home loan interest. So far, 32 lakh houses have been completed under this credit-linked subsidy scheme.

The PM AWAS Yojana primarily covers 4 categories – Economically Weaker Section, Lower Income Group and Middle Income Group 1 and 2, which includes a range of social groups like -

-Senior citizens.
-Construction works.
-Domestic workers.
-Artisans.
-Differently-abled individuals.
-Transgender.
-Leprosy patients.

Eligibility of PMAY

To avail of the home loan PMAY benefits, individuals need to meet these following -

  • Individuals should not be a beneficiary of any government-backed housing scheme.
  • Applicants or their family member should not be an owner of a pucca house.
  • In joint ownership, married couples will be eligible for a single home loan subsidy.
  • At least one female family member must co-own the property.

Moreover, eligible individuals can apply for benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana through – online, Common Service Centres (CSC) or designated financial institutions to benefit from this scheme.
PMAY application status

Once individuals have applied for this housing scheme, they can check the PMAY registration status in these steps –

Step 1 – Visit PMAY’s official portal.
Step 2 – Enter assessment ID or provide details like – name, ID type, father’s name, etc.
