The government facilitated affordable houses for the rural and urban poor with the flagship program of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which was launched on 25th June 2015. The scheme looks to achieve ‘housing for all’ by 2022.

The economically weaker section can avail low-cost houses by enrolling themselves under the PM Awas Yojana list. The authorities publish the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana list, which has the names of all the eligible applicants chosen as beneficiaries to avail houses under this scheme.

Eligibility criteria to avail houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

You need to fulfill the following eligibility criteria to have your name included in the PMAY list -

  • None of the members of the applicant’s family should own a pucca house in any part of India; neither should they own a house under any other government-backed housing scheme.

  • The family of the applicant must not have availed benefits under PMAY-CLSS (Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme) from any Primary Lending Institutions (PLI).

  • The location of the house must fall under the statutory towns and the planned areas as included in the 2011 census.

After the application is complete, the government verifies all the details provided by you in the application form. On the basis of eligibility, the authorities publish the PM beneficiary list on the official website. Potential home buyers should look up the key benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to understand eligibility.

Under this scheme, houses are classified as per income groups, including Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Lower Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG). The MIG is further categorised into two sections – MIG and MIG II, in terms of the income range.
